Show People is a 1928 silent movie directed by King Vidor and stars Marion Davies and William Haines.
The movie starts out with a girl and her father going for an audition to make Marion Davies’ character (Peggy Pepper) a big star. She meets up with William Haines’ character (Billy Boone) who is in comedy pictures.
She soon becomes a rising star changing herself and shunning everything she used to stand for even William Haines’ character who she falls in love with.
It’s an interesting picture, showcasing how people change when fame comes there way but the movie has a happy ending. I must say that through the last third of the movie I wanted to punch Marion Davies’ character in the face but I guess that’s good acting on her part.
Marion Davies never became a huge actress, mostly because her husband pushed her career to hard and always insisted she do dramas instead of comedy which was what she was good at.
In a way I feel sorry for her. I guess she never really had a chance to show us what she could do.
I give it three stars.
